Abstract:

A field experiment was conducted at Al-Sanobar Research Station of Agricultural Scientific Research Center in Lattakia, during the 2022–2023 agricultural seasons. The study aimed to study the effect of three planting dates (1st May, 15th May, 1st June) on certain quality traits (oil and protein) and the yield of three sesame genotypes (Zouri, Z3/1/1/10, and Z3/3/1/10). The experiment was conducted using a spilt plot design with three replications. The results showed a significant effect of planting dates on oil percentage. The three genotypes recorded their highest oil content when sown on the first date (May 1), reaching 40.96% in Zouri, 42.56% in Z3/1/1/10, and 43.88% in Z3/3/1/10.Regarding protein percentage, no significant differences were observed among planting dates or among the tested genotypes. The interaction effect between planting dates and genotypes on yield showed that genotypes Z3/1/1/10 and Zouri achieved the highest yield when sown on the second date (May 15), with average yields of 2744 kg/ha and 2699.7 kg/ha, respectively, outperforming the other treatments. Overall, the second planting date exhibited the most yield values. Signification negative correlation was observed between capsule yield and oil content percentage.
