The leaves of <em>Laurus nobilis <\/em>L<em>. <\/em>were collected from\nAleppo and Al-Nabk cities during flowering and fruiting stages. The essential\noil was extracted using Clevenger and analyzed by gas chromatography and mass\nspectrometry (GC-MS). It was reported that the major compound in both oils was\n1.8-cineole. Other predominant compounds of both oils were: Sabinene, \u03b1-Pinene,\n\u03b2-Pinene, Delta Careen. Antibacterial activity of the essential oil was tested\nagainst Gram-positive bacteria (<em>Staphylococcus aureus<\/em>) and three species\nof Gram-negative bacteria <em>(Escherichia coli, Klepsiella pneumonia <\/em>and<em>\nPseudomonas aeruginosa) <\/em>using microdilution method. The concentrations of\noil ranged from 1 to 100 \u03bcl\/ml. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and\nthe minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were determined.
